We have two flower shops in our community. One is closing.
The two shops share orders from their wholesalers – because individually they can’t afford it. So with shop number 1 going out of business, it may very well put enough pressure on shop number 2 to go out of business as well.
I know of small towns that would just shake their head and say “that’s too bad”.
We work a little different in our county.
I met with three business owners last night (all women by the way) and we had a conversation about what we could do.
One business owner could buy out the first shop. Continue things as they were.
We could encourage shop two to buy out shop one. Except she wants to retire in 5 years and doesn’t want to work that hard now.
Or the four of us could open up a new shop – combine it with a design studio for custom designed work and a Debworks studio for social media marketing, Melaleuca meetings and also website design. We’d throw in a some cool gift like things and do it all in the location that one of the women owns.
It’s just a conversation. I sure hope we go somewhere with it. The town needs us.
And we need the town.
